Hand Care Tips

Beautiful, well-kept and delicate hands are important. Hands tell you a number of things about yourself. Hands tell you how you lead your life and how you take care of your body and skin. Foot Care Routine

When it comes to beauty care one aspect of our body that we tend to neglect often is our feet. Your feet carry the weight of your entire body and if often one of the most abused and least cared for parts of your body. Foot care is very important in order to keep your feet healthy and beautiful. The skin on your feet is very delicate and foot skin care on a regular basis is a must if your feet are to look beautiful. Given below is a foot care routine, that is simple and is not time consuming and that you can follow a few times a week.

* The first step to good foot care is to remove the hard skin from your feet. You may have to use a pumice stone or apply cream generously on the area in order to remove the dead foot skin. Soak your feet in a bowl of slightly hot water. This will soften the dirt and the dead skin, which will allow you to remove it easily. You could use a foot file as well, rub your skin gently and rinse off the flaky residue.
* After this soak your feet for about 10 min in a bowl of warm water. Add some mineral salts or palm sea salts, along with a few drops of lavender essential oils that will relieve the aches and reduce the swelling.
* Dry your feet, especially between your toes. Trim the nails of your toes by cutting straight across the tip. Shape the corners with an emery board.
* Massage your feet with rich foot skin cream. Cup your hands on either side of your foot and with your thumbs firmly press the upper part of your foot while pushing your thumbs outwards.
* Gently massage the anklebone in a circular motion to remove any stiffness in the ankle.
* Remove the extra cream from your nails. Then place cotton wool tufts in-between your toes to keep them apart.
* First apply a base coat of nail polish and then apply a second coat if required. When you apply nail polish, begin from the middle of the nail with one quick stroke and then work outwards.
* Wait for ½ an hour before wearing your shoes.

Follow this foot skin care routine a few times a week and you will have lovely looking feet.

Hair Coloring

Though originally used to color grey hair, Hair coloring now has become a fashion trend among people, particularly youngsters. However, for different people, the purpose of using hair color can be different. Hair coloring is most commonly used to change gray hair to its original color; it is also used to get desired shade of hair color. Sometimes it is used to restore the original color of hair, which has got discolored after using chemicals like tints, relaxers, sun bleaching, etc. Hair coloring products are characteristically categorized on the basis of time length they effect the colored hair. The most common classifications of hair colors are temporary, semi-permanent, demi-permanent (also known as 'deposit') and permanent.

Temporary Hair Color
Temporary hair color has large pigment molecules and thus, do not enter the cuticle layer, allowing only a coating action that can be removed by shampooing. To coat the surface of hair, acid dyes are used that have a low affinity to hair and that’s why they can be easily removed after a shampoo. The color strength of temporary hair color can be improved by applying bleach before the application of the hair color. Temporary hair color is available in a range of product forms, such as rinses, shampoos, gels, sprays, foams, etc. This type of hair color is generally used to provide brighter and more vibrant shades, such as orange or red.

Semi-Permanent Hair Color
This type of color is devised to deposit color on the hair shaft without lightening it. Its formula has smaller molecules than those found in temporary colors, and thus capable of partly penetrate the hair shaft. Such color has no developer, but can be used with heat for deeper penetration. As compared to temporary hair color, it also lasts longer, generally intact up to 4-5 shampoos. Semi-Permanent Hair Color are best for damaged and fragile hair. Moreover, this type of hair color has no ammonia.

Demi Permanent Hair Color
Demi Permanent Hair Color has smaller color pigment molecules that those of semi permanent hair color, however still larger than molecules of permanent hair color. This type of coloring is done by mixing permanent hair color with low volume developer that avoids the ammonia from the permanent tube, and deposits color molecules only into the hair shaft. Since Demi are gentler than permanent hair color, they are best for tint-backs and colorpriming. Demi Permanent color also works great for toning pre-lightened hair.

Permanent Color
Permanent Color has very small color pigment molecules, allowing penetration to the hair shaft. The products and lighteners that come under this category have a developer, or oxidizing agent, and an alkalizing ingredient. This color serves the purpose of raising the cuticle of the hair fiber so the shade can penetrate; helping the formation of shades within the hair fiber, and bringing about the lightening action of peroxide. Permanent Color is just apt for grey hair coverage as it contains an oxidizing colorant (containing ammonia and peroxide), to lift and deposit the new color into the hair shaft.

One should be careful while selecting and applying this color, because this color will not fade or become less vibrant if it's doing its job. When your roots start to grow, you natural hair color will reappear and you must color it more than once to maintain the new color. To get rid of the new color, you have to either remove the color with a stripping process, or color it back to its natural color. Either way, permanent hair color is usually hard to maintain, and to get rid of.

Body Care

After an exhausting day your body needs to be relaxed and pampered in order to get a good night's sleep. You must take care of your body not only in the day but in the night as well. While you sleep at the night, the body is resting and replenishing itself. There are a few things that you can do to relax the body to help in the replenishing process. Here are a few ideas for bath and body care in the night:

* Take a warm, soothing bath. Fill your bathtub with warm water and some lavender that helps in calming and relaxing the body and reduces muscle tension. You can add chamomile, which is a skin soother and helps in reducing swelling and pain in the skin. Lie in the bath for some time and let these herbs relax your body and mind.
* If you want to wake up with a tan you can use a self-tanning lotion overnight. Exfoliate your skin with a scrub and moisturize. Once the moisturizer is fully absorbed spread the self-tanning lotion evenly all over your body, working on one portion of the body at a time. Use wipes to wipe the tanner off your palm and fingers as you apply the lotion. Today there are many self-tanning lotions that dry in five minutes.
* Your hands are the first to show signs of aging and often neglected as well. Give your hands a new lease of life. Apply a generous amount of rich hand cream to restore lost moisture. This is an important part of night body care.
* While sleeping in your bed, ensure that your neck is properly supported through the night. Buy a good quality people to help keep the stress off your neck. Your sleep should rejuvenate you so ensure that every part of your body is taken care of properly.
* Ingrown hairs block pores and can cause bacteria to develop, resulting in redness and swelling. Use a cream that has glycolic and salicylic acid that removes the bacteria. Make it a part of your night care routine for a few nights and you will get rid of ingrown hairs.
* Your feet support the weight of your entire body. Find time to take care of them. If they are callused and cracked moisturize them well. If they are cracked use a foot cream that has glycolic acid. Apply this cream before you sleep and slip on a pair of clean cotton socks. This should be another important part of your body care routine every night.
* Light aromatic candles in your bedroom. These candles will provide a soothing atmosphere and relax your senses. Just remember to blow them out before you sleep.
* Keep the humidifier running in the bedroom to keep the air moist. You skin will glow and be replenished by the moist air through the night.
* Use a "hot stone massage" to heat your heart. This treatment that is common in spas can be done at home too. You need a smooth flat stone as large as the human hand. You can find one on the beach or buy one in a skin care boutique. Follow the instructions given below:

· Boil water in a pot.
· Add rosemary, clove and peppermint into the water.
· Put the rock into the water and let it stay there till it is heated.
· Put off the heat and allow the rock to turn nice and warm.
· Lie down in a dark or softly lit bedroom and place the warm rock between your breasts, on your chest. Allow the warmth and aroma of the stone to relax you and soothe you into a deep peaceful sleep.

Resume Tips

Whether you plan to submit your résumé via e-mail or snail mail, résumés today should be designed to be scanned and indexed by computer.

Electronic and Scannable Résumés

Increasingly, companies are using computers to help manage the volume of résumés for their job openings. Electronic applicant tracking is a new process by which résumés are entered into a database using coding methods or artificial intelligence. The computer programs read and extract information from the résumé , then store the data in the corporate database for matching to job openings. However, if the résumé is difficult to read, much of the information in the résumé will be discarded.

Résumé format

Computer scanner software programs must be able to distinguish between the capital letter "I" (as in Ivory), the letter "l" (as in luck), and the number "1". This font clearly shows the difference. But look what happens with the same characters in Times Roman font: Ivory, luck, number 1.

Several factors can cause the scanner or Optical Character Recognition software to confuse these and other similar characters. Résumés printed by inkjet printers, or facsimile machines, may lack the sharpness and clarity required for scanning, or the fonts used may be too close together, too small or too fancy for the scanner or OCR software to read the characters properly. Here are some tips to help you format your résumé for computer scanning:

	Use common fonts like Times Roman, Courier, and Bookman.
	Use a font size of at least 11 points for Courier, and 12 points for Times Roman or Bookman.
	Do not use condensed or expanded spacing between the letters.
	Use left margin justification. Do not use both right and left justification because it stretches letter and word spacing.
	Avoid italics, underlines, boxes, shadow or shading effects, or reversed colors.
	Eliminate braces, brackets, graphics, tabs or hard returns at the end of the line.
	Do not use horizontal or vertical lines.
	Do not use columnar formats (e.g. newspaper).

A common practice has been to put a headers such as "EDUCATION" and "OBJECTIVE" in a column down the left side of the page and the details or those heading in a column down the right side of the page. While this may be appealing to the eye, a computer scanning program will ignore the columnar format and merge the columns together into one line, reading it from left to right. Columnar formatting is also commonly used in the heading. In the following example, this eye-appealing format….

..….. will be misread by some scanner software as:

Because the scanners will not read tabs and columns, the telephone numbers run together with the street address. To highlight new section headings, use capital or bold letters for section headings (i.e. Objectives, Education, Experience, etc.), and place the section heading on its own line. The heading information should also be treated in a similar manner:

Some software programs will read common bullets like those seen on this page, while other programs will substitute other funny characters like the sum symbol "å ". Since you cannot be sure what character the company’s software will actually read and print for a bullet, it is probably wise to forgo the use of bullets. Highlight your accomplishments at each job (no more than 3 highlights per job) by indenting the line, using bold characters, small capitals or slightly larger font. If you must have bullets, use an asterisk *.

Print the résumé on standard 8.5 x 11 inch bright white paper using black ink. This produces a strong contrast and reduces scanning errors.

If you are mailing the résumé via the post office, send the résumé and cover letter unfolded in a large flat envelope. A crease though a sentence in your résumé might render the résumé illegible.

Paper clip, do not staple, the pages together, making sure that each page contains your identifying information.

Résumé Content

We recommend a combination chronological and functional résumé format. For example, use the names of your employers as a section headings then list your position titles below these as sub-section headings. Beneath each position title, write 3 statements that describe your qualifications or achievements. For example:

Project Manager

Responsible for a team of software implementation specialists. As the project leader, assumed responsibility for the implementation and upgrade of the Financials version 7, utilizing full life cycle development including the use of RAD (Rapid Application Development) and JAD (Joint Application Development) methodologies.

* Approved recommendations for business improvements
* Conducted prototyping for Asset Management, Budget, General
Ledger and Costing
* Approved customizations or data conversion requirements.

Use nouns instead of verbs. Recruiters and Human Resource personnel use key words and code numbers to electronically search through résumé databases, and the keywords they use tend to be nouns rather than verbs. For example, use "Project Manager" rather than "managed software implementation project."

Some résumé writers recommend an opening paragraph summarizing your career with a 30 second ad or that captures the reader’s attention and encourages them to read more of the résumé . However, this paragraph is often written more for the job-seeker than the Recruiter or Human Resource person. Résumé writers often pack this paragraph with fluff— predictable clichés, action verbs and power phrases. For example, we often see power phrases such as "Results-orientated", "Solid leadership", or "excellent written and verbal communication skills. " But today, fluff doesn’t cut it. Computer databases catalog a candidate’s education, skills and experiences. Employers and recruiters never query a database for phrases such as "Results-orientated."

Other résumé writers suggest the opening paragraph be used to state objectives. Typically, they recommend the objectives be kept broad to avoid locking yourself out of positions for which you were qualified, but were not stated in your objectives. However, many résumés we see contain such broadly stated goals, they translate to "I’ll take anything that pays money." For example:

"A management position in a manufacturing environment encompassing professional development, personal achievement and the opportunity to share in the growth of the company and its employees."

After reading that paragraph, the reader still is without a clue as to what this person does or for what position he/she is looking. The average résumé reader spends less than 1 minute reading your résumé . The opening paragraph must set the framework for your career history and direction. Pack your opening paragraph with jobs titles and other nouns that will be used for keyword searches or will otherwise define your career history and future aspirations. For example,

"Award winning MBA Operations Manager, Certified Quality Engineer, first-tier Automotive OEM supplier, seeks position as Operations Vice President, Plant Manager or General Manager. Willing to relocate within the U.S."

Employers and recruiters now use sophisticated computer software to match job openings with résumés. Some software programs use coding methods or artificial intelligence to match the skill sets required for specific job opening to skill sets found in the résumé. The opening paragraph above assists H/R personnel in coding the résumé for computer matching, and it enables keyword data queries.

In today’s marketplace, a candidate is very much like a package on a shelf. Prospective employers shop the aisles in this market and select packages of skills that are needed to complete current projects. Whether or not you are selected depends on the company’s current requirements and how you quantify and advertise your skills.

Résumés that draw response are those that are easy to code or categorize. Difficult résumés are those that are vague in direction, or the stated objective simply isn’t supported by the education or experience. It is not enough to state where you have been or the positions you have held in your career. The résumé must quickly and clearly state your skill sets and the specific position or general direction of your search.

Lastly, forget about that old rule to hold your résumé down to one page. The computer programs scanning your résumé do not care if yours is 1 page or 3 pages. Cut the fluff out and pack in the keywords that will be used for searches. You might even consider a paragraph at the bottom of your résumé that includes nothing but keywords. The following keyword paragraph might be included in a résumé for a consultant that is seeking a position as a Project Manager for a company that is installing the enterprise-solution financial software package, Peoplesoft:

KEYWORDS: Project Manager, Implementation, Peoplesoft, Financials, RAD, Rapid Application Development, JAD, Joint Application Development, Prototyping, Accounts Payable, Asset Management, Budget Administration, General Ledger, Project Costing, Windows 3x, Windows 95, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, PS nVision/Query, PS Projects, People Tools I & II, People Code.
